Based in: Distribution Center – Middle Village, NY

Hours: 6:00pm to 3:00am (hours may vary during peak time)

Job purpose:  To coordinate the routing functions of ABCO’s Distribution Center while also providing support to the other functions of the Distribution Center.  This will contribute to ABCO’s mission of exceeding customers’ highest expectations by:

  • Ensuring that outbound vehicles are routed in the most efficient manner and that deliveries are scheduled as per customer requests and the delivery appointment schedule.
  • Providing support to the Distribution Center, including fielding customer phone calls and inquiries in a professional and courteous manner, as well as communicating any potential issues to the appropriate personnel in order to maintain ABCO’s high level of customer service. 

 

Requirements:

  • Experience: At least 2-5 years experience in routing/dispatching or transportation functions
  • Education: high school diploma; Associates Degree or Technical/Vocational School a plus
  • Skills and traits:
    • Attention to detail

    • Knowledge of routing vehicles
    • Understanding of DOT Regulations
    • Well organized
    • Basic data entry and computer skills
    • Ability to understand, record, and communicate material and product information
    • Ability to perform multiple, simultaneous tasks in a fast paced environment

Key responsibilities and accountabilities:

  • Vehicle Routing and DOT Compliance
    • Routes outbound vehicles in the most efficient manner, making sure to consider the service related requests and needs of all customers
    • Maintains and follows the delivery appointment schedule 
    • Coordinates trucking routes for daily deliveries and pick-ups
    • Assists Transportation manager in ensuring that ABCO remains compliant with all DOT rules and regulations
    • Maintains all reports and documents required by DOT, including:
      • Fuel Reporting
      • International Fuel Tax Agreement (IFTA)
      • Reviewing all Log Books
    • Maintains all files relating to insurance compliance
  • Distribution Center Support
    • Maintains and organizes all branch files, folders, and paperwork
    • Answers the Distribution Center telephone and greets customers in a professional and courteous manner
      • Follows script for proper handling of telephone calls
      • Distributes incoming calls to DC staff and monitors line to ensure call is answered in a timely manner
    • Communicates all backorders or customer related issues to the appropriate team members in a timely manner
    • Assists Transportation Manager with additional activities, as assigned, including:
      • Receiving functions
      • Shipping functions such as branch transfers and vendor returns
      • Data entry
  • Position Knowledge and Training
    • Maintains thorough and up-to-date knowledge and understanding of:
      • Routing software and programs
      • Microsoft Office suite
      • DOT rules and regulations
      • SxE functionality for day-to-day functions of the Distribution Center, especially transfers, direct orders, and inventory movement
    • Attends all mandated company training programs as directed
    • Attends safety meetings and training programs as directed
    • Attends training to addresses communications such as email, documentation, and telephone etiquette, on a yearly basis
